What is Nippers?
Nippers
is the junior program of Surf Life Saving, catering from 6 to 13 year
olds. Our club aims to encourage children of all abilities and backgrounds.
Whether your child is a talented athlete or someone with a fear of
water, Nippers provides a place for them to have fun, make friendships
and develop skills in surf survival.
Our Sunday
morning program usually comprises of 5 different activities. Children
rotate around all of these activities under the supervision of their
team manager. Each activity is run by an experienced instructor .
Activities
include boards, swimming, body surfing, sprints, flags, first aid
and surf awareness. Activities are designed to introduce your child
to the surf and build up their confidence so that they learn to enjoy
and respect the sea.
Later in
the season your child may wish to compete in carnivals where they
can test their newly acquired skills. This is entirely optional and
whilst all children are encouraged to participate, no undue pressure
is applied.
Nippers
is run mostly by parents who have gained their Bronze Surf Medallion.
Surf Lifesaving Australia requires a ratio of 1 qualified Bronze Lifesaver
to 5 children for any water activity. However, we often provide one
to one help for nervous children. To achieve this we encourage new
parents to gain their Surf Bronze. Those not so confident in the water
can also fulfill an important role; that of team manager. This position
is vitally important as it ensures every nipper's whereabouts is known
at all times.
Nipper carnival dates can be found in the events section.
