SURF PATROL SEASON ENDS
Volunteer surf lifesavers from across the state took down the red and yellow flags for the last time when the NSW patrol season officially ended last Sunday 26 April, 2009. The 08/09 season was characterised by large crowds on the beaches, along with some dramatic events including high profile rescues, tragic drownings and an increase in shark attacks and sightings.
“Our volunteer surf lifesavers have put in an extraordinary effort this season,” said Tony Haven, President of Surf Life Saving NSW.
“It really shows the level of commitment our people have to keeping the public safe, in their own time and often with limited funding for resources and equipment. I’d like to personally thank and congratulate each and every one of them, including their families,” said Tony.
